A historic garrison and market town that is now better known as a major road junction than as an address of its own.
Poonamallee is one of the older towns in the Chennai Metropolitan Area, historically significant as a British-era garrison and administrative centre, and today functions mainly as a major junction where Mount-Poonamallee Road (part of NH716, the old NH4) meets the Chennai Bypass and the roads toward Kundrathur and Sriperumbudur. It is the headquarters of its own taluk, distinct from the busier residential corridors of Porur, Iyyapanthangal and Kattupakkam that ring it.
Casagrand does not currently have a project registered inside Poonamallee itself. What it does have is a cluster of projects in the neighbourhoods immediately around it, each reachable from Poonamallee's junction within a short drive: Casagrand Porur and Casagrand Osaka to the east, Casagrand Iyyapanthangal just along Mount-Poonamallee Road, and Casagrand Ventra and Linore in Kattupakkam to the south. This page brings together the closest three, with a straightforward pointer to each one's own detailed page.
A road-junction town first; rail and metro access run through its neighbours rather than the town centre.
| Mode | What serves the area | What to know |
|---|---|---|
| Road | Mount-Poonamallee Road (NH716) | The main arterial through Poonamallee, linking east towards Iyyapanthangal, Porur and the city, and west towards Sriperumbudur. |
| Road | Chennai Bypass | Meets Mount-Poonamallee Road at Poonamallee, providing a route south towards Kundrathur, Kattupakkam and the GST Road corridor. |
| Bus | Poonamallee Bus Terminus | A long-established regional bus hub, reflecting the town's historic role as a transit and market centre. |
What actually defines this junction, beyond the roads themselves.
| Project | Status | What to know |
|---|---|---|
| Mount-Poonamallee Road / Chennai Bypass junction | Operating | A long-standing, heavily used junction linking west Chennai's suburbs to the GST Road corridor and NH716 towards Sriperumbudur; road capacity and traffic here are worth experiencing in person at commute hours. |
| Surrounding development corridor | Ongoing | Porur, Iyyapanthangal and Kattupakkam, all bordering Poonamallee, have seen substantial new residential development in recent years, which indirectly shapes demand and pricing around the Poonamallee junction itself. |
Opening dates for public projects are targets and have moved before. Treat them as indications and check the agency's current announcement. Status as reported up to 21 September 2026.
A fair look at what draws buyers to this stretch and what to weigh against it.
Two checks worth making.
Casagrand Porur, Iyyapanthangal and Ventra are each registered in their own named locality, not Poonamallee; check the address on any document before assuming.
Since this junction carries traffic for several surrounding suburbs, a peak-hour visit gives a more realistic sense of your daily commute than an off-peak one.

Not today. The nearest options are Casagrand Porur and Osaka to the east, Casagrand Iyyapanthangal along Mount-Poonamallee Road, and Casagrand Ventra and Linore in Kattupakkam to the south.
A historic garrison and market town, now mainly known as the junction of Mount-Poonamallee Road (NH716) and the Chennai Bypass.
That depends on direction: Iyyapanthangal is closest along Mount-Poonamallee Road itself, while Porur and Kattupakkam are a short drive in other directions.
No. Poonamallee is the headquarters of its own taluk, administratively distinct from neighbouring Porur and Kattupakkam, even though they border one another.
Chennai Metro does not currently serve Poonamallee directly; check the current network map for the latest status of lines in this part of west Chennai.
